The Blood Saving Campaign aims to lessen
the risk of intra- and postoperative
blood transfusion by decreasing the
amount of blood loss during surgery
and reducing the risk of the transmission
of blood borne diseases. The blood saved
could then instead be used to treat
patients with diseases such as hemophilia
and aplastic anemia where blood transfusion
becomes crucial for the survival of
the patient. Doctors often face the
problem of having a very limited supply
of blood, and the efficient and effective
use of this often scarce resource has
been and still is a problematic issue
for medical staff.
